NAVAC paramedics staff the medevac helicopter operated in conjunction with the New York State Police at Hancock Airport, and serve all of central New York from the Pennsylvania state line to the Canadian border. This unique team is a part of the New York State Police's Lifeguard program.
The crew responds to many different types of calls including evacuation of critically injured patients, rescues, and searches for lost persons. These specially trained paramedics bring a higher level of training experience in managing the critically injured patient.
Training sessions about helicopter
orientation, safety, landing zone preparation, and patient
loading are available for EMS agencies and Fire Departments in central New York. It is recommended that neighboring
fire departments and/or agencies coordinate with each other to conduct the
training as a joint exercise in order to maximize the
opportunity for fire and rescue personnel to attend. |
