Dear Neighbor:

It’s that time of year when you would normally receive our annual MedGuard mailing. In the past you have subscribed to this program that helps to fund our emergency medical service operations. But this year I have to write to you to inform you about a change that is taking place in New York State.

NAVAC, along with many other ambulance services in our state, has been informed that it is the opinion of the New York State Attorney General that the MedGuard program is an insurance policy and that ambulance corps are not allowed to sell insurance. As a result of this NAVAC and the other ambulance services are researching how best to address this, and even convince the Attorney General to change his opinion. In the mean time we have deemed it prudent to discontinue the subscription; we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

The northern suburbs have always been very supportive of NAVAC, through both donations and the MedGuard program. This has enabled us to continue to provide the very best in emergency medical care to all members of our community.

Now I am asking for your continued support of NAVAC. Specifically I ask you to continue to support NAVAC by making a contribution to us this year in place of your MedGuard subscription. It may surprise you but NAVAC receives only a minimal amount of funding from your tax dollars to our local governments. Only 3% of our total operating budget comes from taxes from the communities that we serve. The funds NAVAC received each year through the MedGuard Program had a huge impact on our operating budget. We need your continued support this year more than ever.

I hope I have conveyed to you how vital your past support of NAVAC has been through the MedGuard program, and how even more important it is today.
