Membership Requirements

NAVAC LogoOperational Positions

  • Attendant - is the first level of EMS operations, and is a "helper" on an ambulance crew. Requirements for this role are certification in First Aid and CPR, which we provide, and successful completion of NAVAC's Attendant Training program.

  • Driver - is a Member qualified to operate our ambulances and emergency response vehicles. Requirements for this role are qualification as an Attendant and successful completion of NAVAC's Driver Training program.

  • Crew Chief - is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) who is responsible for directing an ambulance crew and managing the care of a patient.  The Crew Chief must be certified by the New York State Department of Health as an EMT, AEMT-Intermediate, AEMT-Critical Care, or AEMT- Paramedic, and successfully complete our Crew Chief Training program.

Training Positions

  • CPR Instructor - an American Heart Association BLS Instructor who teaches Healthcare Provider and Community CPR classes.

  • First Aid Instructor - an American Safety and Health Institute Instructor who teaches First Aid and Wilderness First Aid classes.

Other Non-Operational Positions

  • NAVAC has many opportunities to participate in crucial "behind the scenes" roles relating to administration, community relations, and fund raising.

Individuals Considering Applying to NAVAC

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must complete an application that reviews education, employment history, emergency services history, criminal convictions, and references.

  • Should plan to spend 12 hours per month in undertaking this commitment.
