Course Descriptions

BLS for
Healthcare Providers: Teaches the skills of CPR for
victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier
device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen), use of an AED on
adults and and children, and relief of FBAO in responsive
and non-responsive victims. The course is designed for
healthcare providers who care for patients in a wide variety
of settings, both in and out of hospital. This course
is typically for Healthcare providers, such as physicians,
nurses, paramedics, EMTs, respiratory therapists, physical
and occupational therapists, physician assistants,
residents, fellows, or medical or nursing students, aides,
medical or nursing assistants, lifeguards, and other allied
health personnel. An original certification course is
typically between 6 and 8 hours long.

Heartsaver
AED & Heartsaver CPR: Teaches the basic techniques
of adult CPR and use of an AED. Pediatric CPR may be
taught if students live or work in a setting where children
are present. Students also learn to use barrier
devices in CPR and give first aid for choking in the
responsive victim. The course teaches how to recognize
the signs of 3 major emergencies: heart attack, stroke and
FBAO. Heartsaver CPR includes only CPR FBAO, and
emergency recognition. This course is typically for
all lay responders with a duty to respond, such as airline
personnel, security guards, employees in the workplace,
family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac
death, and other lay rescuers who may need to respond to a
cardiac emergency. An original certification course is
typically between 3 and 6 hours long depending on which
modules are taught.

Heartsaver First Aid:
The Heartsaver First Aid Course teaches rescuers to
effectively recognize and treat adult emergencies in the
critical first minutes until emergency medical services
personnel arrive. The course also provides a complete
health and safety training solution for first aid, adult
CPR, and AED. Optional modules include child CPR and
AED and infant CPR. This course is typically for
persons assigned to
respond to emergencies in the workplace or community as well
as those who want to learn first aid, CPR, and AED skills.
Some rescuers are required to take this course as part of
their employer�s efforts to comply with OSHA regulations, ie,
corporate employees, security guards, airline personnel,
lifeguards, and other individuals who want or need first aid
training. An original certification course is
typically between 3 and 7 hours depending on which modules
are taught.

CPR for Family &
Friends: A modular course that teaches lay rescuers
skills in CPR and relief of FBAO in the responsive victim.
The course presents information about the AHA adult Chain of
Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke,
and choking in adults; information on the AHA pediatric
Chain of Survival, signs of choking in infants and children,
prevention of the most common fatal pediatric injuries, and
reduction in the risk of sudden infant death syndrome.
This course is typically for all lay rescuers, such as
schoolchildren, family members of patients at risk for
sudden cardiac death, and other laypersons who want to learn
rescue skills for loved ones. An original
certification course is typically between 2 to 4.5 hours
long depending on what modules are taught.
